Colmar

Our time in Paris so far had been pretty exhausting with LOTS of walking around and exploring, dodging rain downpours and dogpoo, hunting for the perfect cafes/restaurants, and finding our way around on the Metro. In the end, we've come to the conclusion that we're just not really big-city folks. The crowds, the smelly-smells, the traffic, the loudness, the busy-ness, the pricey-ness and the many many many tourists had us looking forward to moving on to another city (although we will miss the restaurants and cafes!).

We woke up to pouring rain, did some quick packing, bought a sandwich and croissants from le Cafe Francais for the trip and hopped on the Metro to the train station. About 5 hours later, we reached Colmar (a town in Alsace, France) -- what a change from Paris, so nice and quiet with lots of very cute half-timbered houses and crooked little cobblestone streets. We walked to our hotel from the train station (Steve is boycotting cabs) and then headed out in search of a laundromat but instead found a little pub which served tartes flambes (an Alsatian specialty dish), croques monsieurs and camembert au four (we had one of each!). yummmy.

Hours of Walking: 2
Pretty half-timbered houses
Narrow cobblestone streets
Mmm...camembert au four
